My approach to penis pumping
I must confess that I have never made my own penis pumps. Back in the day, I started with some cheap air pump to get an understanding of what it is and how it works, then I got the Bathmate Hydromax and later on I upgraded to the HydroExtreme and never looked back. There are other great pumps and Bathmate is often considered overpriced, but I still like it.
The reason I did so, is because I believe that a penis pump should be incorporated into every man’s lifestyle for years to come (pun intended). Just like with Kegel exercises, yoga or going to the gym, pumping requires consistency and can provide amazing long-term benefits if it becomes a part of your lifestyle.
If you expect to get 2 inches in penis length in a month with a DIY penis pump made from a Coca-Cola bottle and be done with pumping, then there is nothing I can help you with. In that case, you can safely close this page because I don’t have any magic pills.
What does the Penis Pump do?
The idea behind penis pumping is very simple: creating a vacuum around your penis draws blood into the erectile tissues, which are called the corpus cavernosum and corpus spongiosum (now I sound like a scientist or a Harry Potter fan).

These erectile tissues are also filled with blood during an erection (this is what actually causes the erection), but with a penis pump, you can quickly go to the natural limits or even exceed them a bit and stretch these tissues a bit more than what is natural for you. The erectile tissue is like a sponge, and by pumping you are able to completely fill it with blood and stretch it to the maximum.
Some people say that pumping also causes micro tears, and similar to building muscle in the gym (even though the penis is not a muscle and the tissues are different), this makes your penis grow little by little. Others compare pumping to yoga or stretching the muscles, which increases muscle length over time. But, again, there is no medical research that could prove the ability of penis pumps to increase penis size. Even though I say I’ve seen positive results from my personal experience, I’M NOT A DOCTOR, so if you want professional advice, consult a urologist.

Penis Pumping Benefits
There are short-term and long-term benefits to penis pumping.
Short-term Benefits
First is the main reason why penis pumps were made and why they exist. We’re talking about helping with erectile dysfunction. If you suffer from ED, you can get an erection with a penis pump, put on the cock ring and enjoy yourself. It probably won’t be a full erection, but it should be enough to get the job done.
Second, you’ll get a temporary increase in penis size (mostly girth). This increase can last up to 12 hours. Some articles claim that the effect lasts for 30 minutes, but in my experience, the effect lasts for hours, especially for a flaccid size.
Long-term Benefits
When it comes to long-term benefits, a penis pump is one of the best investments a man can make. Here are the long-term benefits of using a penis pump regularly:
- Increase the erection strength
- Increase the libido
- May help with premature ejaculation
- Permanent penis enlargement. As you may have noticed, I put this benefit last. The reason for this is that there isn’t enough medical evidence to support this claim, even though many users (including myself) experience an increase in size after long-term use. My personal belief (and experience) is that you can gain up to an inch in length and up to half an inch in girth after long-term use. By long-term use I mean more than 6 months. And even after that, you will need to use the pump from time to time to maintain all your gains. Also, note that I’m only talking about my experience with Bathmate pumps. Cheap pumps, or pumps with a different design and construction may not provide the same long-term results that I have had with Bathmate. But anyway, I suggest not getting into pumping if a size increase is your only goal, just so you won’t be disappointed if it doesn’t work for you.
Popular homemade penis pumps
Now we come to the different methods of making a penis pump that you can find online. I don’t recommend any of these methods, but the reasons are different. So let’s discuss them, shall we?
Buy parts separately and assemble a store-bought air penis pump
The standard construction of a manual air penis pump includes a glass or plastic cylinder, a hand pump and a seal. Some vacuum pumps also include a pressure gauge.
All of these parts can be purchased separately on the Internet. For example, you can search for “penis pump cylinder” and “penis pump seal” on Amazon (or your local marketplace), then get a hand pump like this one and that’s all you need. You’ll also need a hose, but that’s usually included with either a cylinder or a hand pump. Also, don’t forget to check that all the sizes match.
In my case, I searched on Amazon, but you can find these parts on Alibaba, your local marketplace, or just Google.
With this method you can build a decent penis pump that will do the job. The problem is that such a pump will cost you up to $80-$90. In my personal opinion, if you’re willing to spend that much, it’s better to spend a few more dollars and buy either a basic Bathmate Hydro7 water pump, or a FleshPump, an automatic air pump from Fleshlight, or Tom of Finland Heavy Duty Pump. Hydro7 and the FleshPump may be a bit weak for experienced users, but again, if you’re experienced, a cheap homemade pump won’t do the job either.
Is there a way to lower the price of this DIY pump? Sort of, yes. In most cases it’s possible to create a vacuum without a hand pump, just by sucking the air out of the tube with your mouth. You’ll save $50 that way, but using a penis pump that way is just too much hassle.
Overall, this method is fine, but I don’t think it’s worth the money and there are better alternatives.
DIY water pump using the same parts as the previous method
If you have the items from the previous method, it’s possible to build a water penis pump by adding a slight modification. In short, you need to add a water trap to the construction so that the water has somewhere to go instead of going to a hand pump or your mouth.
It’s best to watch this video about water penis pumping (English Language).
Overall, it works, but it adds additional cost to a previous pump. Also, the durability of these pumps is worse than the Bathmate pumps.
DIY air penis pumps made from a PVC pipe
There are several variations of these pumps. They usually differ in the tool used to create the suction. The suction can be created with a syringe, a hand pump, a vacuum cleaner or, again, with the mouth.
You can see an example of such a pump in this YouTube video.
While this pump works, it has one very dangerous flaw: the cylinder is not transparent. It’s extremely important to be able to see your penis while pumping. Otherwise, you might miss the point if your penis swells too much or if some capillaries burst because of too much pressure.
What if you could find a transparent tube? A transparent pipe would make this homemade penis pump safer, but I still don’t think you should make it.
Homemade penis pumps from plastic or glass soda bottles
These are the most popular materials you’ll find in almost every article about homemade penis pumps, and the truth is that such pumps are the absolute worst and you shouldn’t bother making them. Also, you will still need to buy a number of supplies from the store.
Such penis pumps would likely break after a few uses, if not the first. Also, their effectiveness is likely to be low. In the case of a glass bottle, it can even be dangerous because you have to drill a hole in it, and if you do something wrong and there is a crack, the glass can break under pressure during use.
Overall, I recommend avoiding such pumps and not wasting your time on them.
Accordion Plunger as a Penis Pump
There are people who claim that a plunger can be used as a homemade water penis pump. I haven’t tried it and I never will, but even if it works, it’s just not safe because it’s not transparent and you can’t see your penis while pumping. Personally, I think it’s a bad idea and shouldn’t be tried.
Are Homemade Penis Pumps Worth It?
Not only do I think that DIY penis pumps are not worth it, I strongly believe that they can be dangerous and should not be used. Some basic pumps start at $25 and are a much better choice to try pumping and decide if it’s something you want to incorporate into your life. And if you decide to get serious about pumping, you’re going to have to spend a pretty penny on a quality penis pump. There is no way around it with homemade penis pumps.
