How to Make a Homemade Vibrator? DIY Vibrator Ideas

I’ll start this article by saying that you can’t make a luxurious silicone waterproof vibrator with dozens of speeds and patterns that is on par with vibrators from leading brands. It’s obvious but I just wanted to double-check that we are on the same page. Instead, there are various casual items you may have at your home that can function as vibrators to some extent.

Also, if you’ve already skimmed the internet for this topic, you’re unlikely to find any new methods in this article. The list of household items that can be used as vibrators is limited and everyone is suggesting the same things. So, in this article, I’ll go over the most popular methods and share my thoughts and advice on each of these methods.

Before we get to the list of items that can be used as DIY vibrators, I want to emphasize some safety rules you need to follow in 99% of cases.

    DIY Vibrators Safety Tips

    Nothing sharp

If a vibrating item you have at home has sharp edges or, for example, non-removable blades (like some electric razors), please don’t use it. Even if you think that you’ll control the item positioning so that it won’t harm you, in the heat of the moment you may forget about it for a second and do harm yourself. Please, avoid anything that can cut you.

    Always use condoms

Actually, you won’t be able to use a condom in 100% of cases, for example, because it’s impossible with a shower head, but overall you should follow this advice every time there is room for it. In some cases, you can use a vibrator over panties but even then you can add a condom for additional protection (I know I’m being paranoid here).

    Use lube

Just like with store-bought vibrators, you should use lube with the homemade counterparts. Considering that you’re using condoms, avoid oil-based lubes. Just stick with a water-based one and you’re good. If you don’t have a lube or are shy to buy one, you can use something like a 100% natural aloe vera gel. Also, homemade lube can be made with water and cornstarch. Cornstarch lube is far from being great but it will do the work.

    Wash your tools

I understand that not everything can be washed with soap and water, but in such cases, you can at least use sanitizing wet wipes before and after use.

NEVER use homemade vibrators for anal

This is my rule for all homemade toys, especially for vibrators. The majority of DIY vibrators are for external i.e. clitoral stimulation but even if they theoretically can be inserted, please don’t use them that way.

Now that’s we’re done with safety precautions, let’s finely get to the items you can use as homemade vibrators.

Items to use as homemade vibrators

    Cell phone

Using a cell phone as a vibrator comes first on my list because of two reasons. First, I’m sure that everyone these days has a cell phone. Second, turning your cellphone into a vibrator is relatively easy and fast.

By default, cell phones don’t have a functionality for constant vibration but it can be easily changed with an app. There are many apps you can try so I’ll just list here some of the most popular.

    cell phone

    iPhone:

    Android:

I swear I have no idea why Android apps have the same name.

These apps position themselves as “muscle massagers”, but we all know the truth about real use cases. The apps have various vibration modes and strength settings so there is a lot of room for experiments.

Note: Please use the phone only for external stimulation. Also, you may want to apply the vibrations over the panties first.

    Electric Toothbrush

The second obvious choice that the majority of us have, is an electric toothbrush. If you have a rotating type, take the head off, put the condom on and apply the toy to the clitoris the way you feel comfortable. Some users suggest wrapping the toothbrush in paper or adding makeup sponges for additional softness and comfort.

Also, if you own a toothbrush that uses “Sonic” technology, you know, the ones that use kind of back-and-forth micromovements (or at least that’s what I feel when I use mine) instead of rotating, you can try to apply the back side of the brush head to the clitoris. If it feels too powerful, you may want to add some cotton balls or a makeup sponge to make the surface softer and reduce the intensity.

    Electric shaver/razor

Here is one more vibrating item that is available in nearly every home. Some electric razors have a shape that actually resembles a vibrator and in theory, can be used internally (I still advocate against putting inside anything that is “homemade”). Just keep in mind to remove the blades and put the condom on.

    Shower head / Bath faucet

While it doesn’t vibrate, technically, the shower head has been known as one of the most popular items used for female masturbation. Overall you can put your clit under any source of running water and enjoy the sensations.

Also, it’s important to avoid getting the water inside the vagina. First, it may bring some unwanted infection (you never know). Second, it will wash off your natural microbiota.

    shower head

Some people even claim that improper use of a shower head for masturbation can cause air embolism. While it’s a very dangerous state when air enters the bloodstream, there is not enough evidence that using a shower head can cause air embolism. Unless you use a pressure washer for showering. Just joking.

Overall, just don’t insert a shower head inside of the vagina and don’t use excessive pressure and you should be fine. (NOT A MEDICAL ADVICE)

    Face Scrubbers and Face Massagers

Both face scrubbers and massagers can be used as clitoral massagers. Though some face massagers are rotating, it’s better to go for a vibrating one. The issue with these tools is that the price starts around $20 which is also enough for a beginner vibrator.

    Massage guns

Oh dear, these are powerful. The only reason why massage guns are so low on the list is that even cheap models cost $30-$40 and you can just pick a decent vibrator for this price.

The manufacturers of massage guns often state that their products are not intended for masturbation. Which is true. But the first wand massager wasn’t intended for masturbation either. Though the working principle of a massage gun is different from a massager, if you search PornHub you’ll find numerous videos of using massage guns in a similar manner.

Note: Use massage guns only externally.

    Back/Neck Massager

Anything that vibrates/massages can be used as an external vibrator for your private parts, at least to some extent. So, using back and neck massagers for such purposes is straightforward. It’s just unlikely that many people have them at home.

    Game Controllers

The idea here is to make your game controller vibrate continuously, or when you press a certain button. I see a lot of people recommending using game controllers as vibrators, but for me, it’s questionable because you’ll most definitely need to use a third-party PC app called iVibrate. The app is not compatible with newer controllers (though it may change in the future) and the free app version is quite limited.

You may argue that it’s similar to installing an app on your mobile phone, but setting everything up on the controller is way more troublesome.

    game controller

Is there a way to make a game controller vibrate constantly without installing an additional app? In theory, some controllers may have a way to achieve this, for example through a “Test” mode. But this depends on the controller and varies between manufacturers.

    Washer and Dryer Machines

These methods are also mentioned a lot but it’s far from being ideal. At least because it’s available to you for a very limited time frame. Are you going to run your appliances empty just for the sake of masturbation? I doubt it’s worth it.

    Clone-a-Willy

If you like sculpturing or want to make a gift for your partner, you can use a product called Clone-a-Willy. It’s a molding kit that allows you to make a silicone copy of your or your partner’s penis. The kit comes with a bullet vibrator that turns your homemade dildo into a vibrating one. Overall the kit is just too expensive to be used as a substitution for a store-bought vibrator.

    Are Homemade Vibrators Worth It?

Some items on our list cost the same or more than budget-friendly vibrators you can buy online. On the other hand, some items mentioned above are already available to you and it doesn’t cost you a penny to use them as vibrators but the experience is unlikely to be on par with vibrator from a reputable brand.
